HELP US ELECT MORE MORE WOMEN TO THE OFFICE OF STATE ATTORNEY GENERALĀ
In 1881, Marion Todd and ada miser kepley became the first women ever to run for attorney general
Nearly 40 years before women earned the right to vote, these brave trailblazers were the first women ever to run for Attorney General. It wasn’t until the 1959 that Anne Alpern of Pennsylvania became the first female Attorney General in the United States.
Channeling the spirit of Marion and Ada, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) launched the 1881 Initiative with a simple, but ambitious goal: Elect women to fifty-percent of the Democratic Attorneys General seats by the end of 2022.
While women are more than half the population, they hold fewer than 1/3 of elected positions and only 32 women have ever served as a Democratic AG. That’s why the 1881 initiative is so critical. In 2018 we made significant progress, electing 4 new women AGs including history making victories in Delaware, Michigan, and New York.
